A must-read, especially for all the Bad-Ass Chics out there, and I highly recommend the Audiobook.  Nicol Zanzarella as the voice of Jane totally nailed it.

Jane is a self-diagnosed sociopath.  You would think that she would be unlikable and someone you would never be friends with...but I'm actually kind of obsessed with her.  Obsessed with her cleverness, her deft sense of humor, and her portrayal of a simpering woman, when she's anything but.  And that ending...it was superb.  This is one of the best KU Read & Listen Audiobooks I've listened to so far  (I'm currently on 2 months for 99¢ plan on KU).

๏ ๏ ๏  My Thoughts ๏ ๏ ๏

I've only recently started reading Mysteries/Thrillers and I don't usually find myself wanting to rate them anything over four stars...but this book has done so, one of the rare few.  I really liked it...from the cover and to everything inside the cover, this book delivers.

My only qualm is the shifting of narratives left me continuously confused as to whose head I was in.  With so many perspectives, and added to that all the many characters in each perspective life, I was constantly mixing up the side characters.  A full-cast narration could have solved this...I'm just saying.  Overall, though, the intricately woven plot-line coupled with the engaging and authentic characters made that qualm almost completely overlookable.

Snakes and Ladders -Final Update!!!

I've finished my book...the one picked for me to read!!!  What a winner it was, thank you, everyone, for picking such an awesome read.  I managed to dodge all the snakes and hit two ladders.  I actually got lucky, what'da you know about that.

My Stops along the way...

#1~ Prompt:  Author is a Women...I read The Readymade Thief by Augustus Rose (finished 2/22/19) Which is not by a woman so I rolled only one dice or die...I rolled a 5 and moved to

#6~ Prompt:  Title has a color word in it...I read The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick (finished 2/24/19) Which has Silver in the title so I went up the ladder to  #27

#27~ Prompt:  Set during WWI or WWII...I read Prisoner of Night and Fog by Anne Blankman (finished 03/01/19)  --I thought this was a book leading up to WWII, but it turns out its about 8 yrs. before it...so I rolled one Die.  I rolled a 4 and moved to

#31~ Prompt:  Road Trip...I read Beartown by Fredrik Backman (Finished 0304/19) --A road trip occurs when the Hockey Team travels to an away game...so I rolled 2 dice and got 11 and moved to

#41~ Prompt:  Characters Involved in Politics...I read The Long Game by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (Finished 03/08/19) which has all sorts of political intrigue...so I rolled two dice and got 4 and moved to

#45~ Prompt:  A book that has been on your TBR for more than one year...I read If You Dare by Deanna Madden (Finished 03/11/19) --This whole series has been on my TBR for more than a year...so I rolled two dice and got 7 and moved to

#52~ Prompt:  Has a tree or flower on the cover...I read The Gone World by Tom Sweterlitsch (Finished 03/16/18) because it has several trees on the cover...so I rolled two dice and got 11 and moved to

#63~ Prompt:  Cover is more than 50% Blue...I read The Exes Revenge by Jo Jakeman (Finished 3/20/19) for the blue cover...since this is a ladder square, I'm moving to

#95~ Prompt:  Memoir...I read The Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx (Finished 03/24/19) this is a book that is a year in the life of Nikki Sixx...so I rolled two dice and got 11 and moved to the last spot...

#100~ Prompt:  Let BL pick it for you: post 4 choices and read the one that gets the most votes...I chose these 4 Books...1~ The Red Hunter by Lisa Unger, 2~The Mistake by Elle Kennedy, 3~Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone, and 4~Lifel1k3 by Jay Kristoff...the winner was Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone (Finished 03/21/19)

This was a fun challenge, and I read some books that I really liked, one of the reasons I love Reading Challenges...forces me to read books that I might not have never gotten around to reading or find new ones to fit the challenge.

๏ ๏ ๏  My Thoughts ๏ ๏ ๏

I just watched The Dirt on Netflix and read the book quite some time ago.   Nikki Sixx's heroin addiction is touched on but not fully explored in The Dirt, but this puts his downward spiral on full-display.   With Nikki narrating his own diary entries, this played out exceptionally well, coming from him, it feels so real, raw and completely compelling.

Do you have to love Motley Crue to get into this, no, but it probably helps?  I don't necessarily love the Crue, but I really like them, I've seen them in concert even...and I do love 80's music in general, especially from those infamous hair bands.  It's crazy to see how rampant cocaine and heroin were back then, especially when you're famous and so many people think you can do no wrong.

This edition that I listened to is a Tenth Anniversary edition with a forward and afterward from Nikki Sixx about how releasing this book has affected him, all very interesting...and apparently, there are addicts who say this book has changed their lives for the better and helped them to break their habit.  If that's true then this book is completely worthwhile.

๏ ๏ ๏  My Thoughts ๏ ๏ ๏

The only thing holding this back from a higher rating from me is the in-your-face explicit sex scenes between a just turned eighteen-year-old and her teacher.  It felt wrong, and I had a difficult time with them.  This could have been almost perfect without those...yes, there's more than one of them.

This is the type of mystery that has all the players laid out for you as you get closer to the ending and the reveal of the killer...and then a little something extra is revealed.  These elements of the story are notably more satisfying than the sex and forbidden romance.  Thank goodness for that.

Told from alternating pov's between the officer working the case, the teacher and the victim, Hattie, with three different Narrators for each, made this perfect for Audio.  Overall, at its heart, Everything You Want Me To Be is a crime-mystery dealing with the complexities of life, love, and the pursuit of dreams in small-town middle America entwined with some uncomfortable scenes that you can either skim or listen to on super-fast speed.

๏ ๏ ๏  My Thoughts ๏ ๏ ๏

This book tried to be a number of things, it tried to be an emotional, psychological thriller...but it only managed to be semi-so.  Semi-thrilling and semi-psychological.  It came off as being overly played-out, and not really all that mysterious.  Like many reviews for this state, it feels like a lifetime movie.  Something to spend a lazy Sunday on.  But also something you could pass up and not be missing out on anything.  Narration for this was not my favorite and left me feeling kind of meh.

๏ ๏ ๏  My Thoughts ๏ ๏ ๏

The first half of this book is based in truth and the second half is more fantasy seeped in magic spells.  Sadly, I had to force myself to read the first half of this...it was boring and downright depressing, and I get that it followed the actual history of the Romanov family so it was bound to be boring and depressing.  The one good thing that came about from me reading this is I actually looked up and read about what exactly happened to the Romanov's because honestly I couldn't remember ever learning about it; if I ever did.   The bad; is that half of the story read a lot like the wiki page did, almost verbatim.  Added to that, the overall writing is kind of mediocre, so much so that I had to start skimming to get through the story.

The second half of the story is what saved it from a two-star rating.  It was much easier to get through and the writing even improved some too.  The romance was easier to believe by the last third of the story because it felt kind of off before that.  Despite finding the fantasy elements easier to read, they still didn't make me feel like anything is possible...

Overall, I wanted to like this more than I actually did, but it just didn't pull me in enough for it to happen.  Maybe, if the actual historical truths in this, like the time they spent under lock and key, had a smaller part of the story...than maybe I could embrace this a little more.

๏ ๏ ๏  My Thoughts ๏ ๏ ๏

This is such a compelling read/listen.  I didn't want to stop listening, not even to go sightseeing, I was on Vacay while listening to this; it was that good.  Audio narration isn't perfect, a little breathy...but I totally adjusted to it.  Pressley does a variety of voices that made this all the more compelling.

What starts out as a crime scene investigation quickly morphs into so much more...with a bleak apocalyptic/dystopian feel that has time-travel, suspense, and is also wholly mysterious and altogether mind-blowing all at the same time.  If I tried to explain the science (time-travel aspect) part of this to someone else, I don't think they would ever totally get it...mostly because I probably leave out crucial information while doing so.  But, also because I can't fully grasp it completely but I did grasp enough...enough to enjoy it immensely.  Yeah...one of those kinds of a story for me, actually a lot of the Sci-Fi that I read is like that for me.

This book already has talk of a movie being made and I can't wait to see it, maybe it will clear up that ending for me...while I mostly get what went down I do have one little question about it.  I only had one other issue and that was the awkward sex scene, I believe that guys should not write sex scenes in their books...because I've never encountered one that wasn't awkward yet.

A fitting ending or a possible non-ending, since at the end of the Audiobook the Author says she is quite possibly going to write another Deanna Madden book at some point in time.  Of which I will gladly listen to.  Jorjeanna Marie is the voice of Deanna Madden, after 3 books of doing so.  I still wish the series had a male narrator for the male parts of the book, though.

The enigmatic Deanna Madden is someone who is unlike any other character I've ever read about.  Her backstory is so tragic, her present so darkly titillating, yet totally compelling...and her possible future, hopefully, involves a little more healing than we've seen so far from her.
