AUDIOBOOK REVIEW⤏ THE SHADOWS BETWEEN US

BY TRICIA LEVENSELLER

    NARRATED BY CAITLIN DAVIES

    SYNOPSIS FROM AUTHORS WEBSITE⇣
Alessandra is tired of being overlooked, but she has a plan to gain power:
    1) Woo the Shadow King.
    2) Marry him.
    3) Kill him and take his kingdom for herself.
No one knows the extent of the freshly crowned Shadow King’s power. Some say he can command the shadows that swirl around him to do his bidding. Others say they speak to him, whispering the thoughts of his enemies. Regardless, Alessandra knows what she deserves, and she’s going to do everything within her power to get it.
But Alessandra’s not the only one trying to kill the king. As attempts on his life are made, she finds herself trying to keep him alive long enough for him to make her his queen—all while struggling not to lose her heart. After all, who better for a Shadow King than a cunning, villainous queen?

    MY THOUGHTS⇣

This is decidedly less YA than her previous books...this one dabbles in more adult games and shenanigans.  You could say that this has little to no world-building, and you'd be right...but honestly, I didn't really need it.  I thought this was fun, quick, and just what I needed at the time.  You didn't have to read between the lines to figure out what was going on.  It was an easy-listening experience that was made even better by Caitlin Davies' narration...she was actually the perfect voice for Alessandra.

Listen to this (or read, if you prefer) when you're in the mood for something quick (only 326 pages & a stand-alone), lighthearted, with witty banter and a romance --the kind that sneaks up on the unsuspecting MC and totally morphs her into someone she thought she could never be or ever wanted to be.
