This series...I'm so sad that I'm completely done with it...bbbuuuttt...I'm happy I own all 3 books plus the audio versions so I can always read/listen to them again.  Because, Damn.

I've seen this series all over my feeds and I thought, I might as well try it, people seem to like it.  Well...I'm afraid that I didn't love and I'm not sure I even liked it.  Maybe it was due to the overly bland voice for the narration...I just couldn't stay focused on the story for anything.  It was too easy to tune it out, unfortunately.  I did have some moments where I almost kind of liked Murderbot, though...he was developing a sense of humor at least.  I just need to know, does it get better with the next book?

At first, the narration took some getting used to, especially for Cassidy's voice, with his Maine accent.  Eventually, I did get used to it, which is probably due to the insane amount of love that I had for this guy.  The feels, OMG!  (Maybe, I was partial to Cassidy because I really love that name, after all, I named my daughter Cassidy.)

Seriously, I loved these characters, both Cassidy and Brynn pull at the heartstrings, and I was totally rooting for them...and then the twist at the end comes about and I kind of felt like it was a little too much to believe.  But all in all, I couldn't let it take my love for this story away.

Not Even Bones is unlike any other paranormal book.  Nita is unlike any other heroine I've ever read, too.  It's kind of in a league of its own.  Some would classify this as YA, but I'm not one of them.

Sometimes paranormal or supernatural will read sort of like fantasy...but not this, it feels like a more realistic world where supernatural beings just exist, anywhere from a Unicorn to a Dolphin Girl.  It's super wild and freaky strange.  Then there this seedy underbelly where some will sell body parts of the supernatural beings...all I can say is this is one hell of a freaky AF ride.  Oh yeah, I almost forgot...this has a cliffhanger that will have you thinking...seriously, WTF!

A well deserved 5 stars.  The jump between two different time periods can be exceptionally difficult to follow, especially in audio format, but this book pulled it off flawlessly, despite having one narrator.  She had a different cadence to her voice for each of the MC's, and I was always able to know just whose timeline I was in throughout the entire story.  With a very intricately woven plotline, and dynamic characters, The Broken Girls is a must listen.  I found the way she worked the ghost into the story made this more of a realistic story with a splash of paranormal instead of a paranormal story with some realistic aspects added to it.  For me, this worked perfectly.

While I only read a total of 10 books plus 1 novella this month, which is lower than what I've been reading lately, I've had some really good reads/listens this month. This first entry in the Crown of Shards Series opens up with this magically fantastical and intriguing world that feels part medieval mixed with some modern flourishes.  The cover encompasses this medieval-modern-ness that it has going on, perfectly. This is billed as Gladiator meets Game of Thrones (albeit it's a whole lot cleaner than GOT) and from what I know of those works...it's a fairly apt description.

This book doesn't burden you with a whole lot of info dumping, it cuts right to the action and doesn't let up until the end.  This fast-pace is paired with a 28-year-old heroine that isn't the typical teenager heroine that you get with Fantasy.  There is also only a splash of romance and it's kept fairly tame, but for me personally, I hope that the romance heats up a bit in the second book.  Overall this was exquisitely bad-ass and I couldn't stop listening and I totally can't wait to listen to the sequel.

The Nowhere girls started off feeling very YA with emphasis on the Y.  It also had its instances that felt very preachy with its WWJD (what would Jesus do) moments...and I don't do religion all that well.  But it quickly became more than that, it takes the very serious subject matter of rape and gives you an uplifting tale of what you can do to make a difference...to make a stand...when you set your mind and heart on doing so.  It takes the feeling of hopelessness that Asking For It gave me and turned it into something hopeful.  With an exceptionally diverse cast of characters, that totally rocked, this book crept up on me and made me love it.

If I rated for the intensity of the last third of the book, this would be an easy 5 Stars...but I deducted a little for not only the somewhat meandering pace at the beginning of the book but also for the awkward sections of the story where they delved into Caitlin's personal life...they didn't feel relatable to me.  Although, in the first book it worked just fine for me, maybe, it's due to the different locale???  

I love a good profiling case, I find it very intriguing.  I didn't know or remember any of the details of Ted Bundy's actual case, so I went into this basically blind.  I did, however, google it after I finished the book, and I can say there are similarities to that case, but lots of differences too.  Overall, I found the first book the best of the two, but I' m looking forward to the next book in the series.

I really thought this was going to come off as overly heavy with the Young of Young Adult, but it surprised me, it deals with some heavy issues and does it surprisingly well.  With a feel that reminds me of Open Road Summer, this story did not disappoint and I think I liked this even more than that book.  The romance has all the feels, even for YA...and I loved every one of the characters so much.  I was also blown away by the songwriting, especially "you'd be mine" and how it embodies the whole story. I would love to hear it put to music.  Since I'm from Michigan, I loved that Annie and even the Author is too.  There was even a shout-out to Grand Rapids, which I live only a little north of.
